The short answer
To hang 3 pictures, treat the set as one piece: total width is the three panels plus two 2–3 inch gaps, centered over the furniture with the group's center at 57 inches or its bottom edge 8–10 inches above the sofa. Snap a single level line for the hooks, use paper templates to mark each hanging point, and prefer D-rings over wire so each panel cannot tilt.

Why we picked it
Three identical 24x36 canvases, the classic triptych format and the easiest to space evenly from one level line.
Why we picked it
A heavier relief triptych in solid catalpa frames where precise spacing and properly rated hooks matter most.
Why we picked it
Three 20x30 panels that span about 64 inches with 2-inch gaps, ideal for practicing the math over an 84-inch sofa.
Why we picked it
Only as an accent: a small gold tabletop frame for the console under a set, echoing warm tones in the art above.
A set of three is the most forgiving format for a big wall and the least forgiving to hang. One panel a quarter inch high, or one gap wider than the others, and the eye locks onto it from across the room. The method below removes guesswork: you hang everything from one measured line and let templates carry the hook positions.
Treat the three panels as one rectangle. Find its total width and center, mark one level line for the hanging points, and transfer each panel’s hanger position from a paper template. Equal gaps and a shared line do the rest.
Two to three inches. Two inches suits smaller frames like 16x24; three inches suits 24x36 panels and deep relief, where shadows need room. Whatever you pick, keep both gaps identical.
| Panel width (in) | Gap (in) | Total span (in) | Fits sofa width (in) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 16 | 2 | 52 | 72 |
| 16 | 3 | 54 | 72–84 |
| 20 | 2 | 64 | 84 |
| 20 | 3 | 66 | 84–96 |
| 24 | 2 | 76 | 96 |
| 24 | 3 | 78 | 96–108 |
These assume portrait orientation and per-panel sizes; confirm both on the listing. The fit column applies our rule that art spans 60–80% of the furniture width. More on that in our measuring guide.
Put the center of the whole group at 57 inches from the floor, unless that leaves the bottom edge less than 8–10 inches above the sofa back or headboard. Then raise it to clear the furniture. With 24x36 panels in portrait, the bottom edge at 57 inches center sits at 39 inches; over a 34-inch sofa back that is only 5 inches, so we raise the center to about 60–62 inches, which puts the bottom edge at 42–44 inches. See the 57-inch rule guide for when to break it.
D-rings, for sets. Two D-rings on two hooks fix the panel’s position; it cannot tilt or slide sideways, so gaps stay true. Wire on one hook lets a panel swing, which you will be correcting every time someone closes a door.
| D-rings on two hooks | Wire on one or two hooks | |
|---|---|---|
| Level stays true | Yes | Drifts over time |
| Gap precision | High | Moderate |
| Ease of hanging | Needs accurate measuring | Forgiving |
| Best for | Triptychs, relief panels, heavy frames | Single pieces, gallery walls |
If your panels arrive with wire, you can still hang on two hooks spaced apart along the wire to reduce swinging. For heavy, deep pieces like the Thalasse Wabi Sabi Sandstone panels, we prefer D-rings and hardware rated well above each panel’s weight.
Mount the laser on a tripod or a shelf at line height, let it self-level, and mark the hook positions directly on the projected line. Check from both ends of the span: walls in older buildings are rarely flat, and the line will reveal bulges your eye ignores. Hang to the level line, not to the ceiling or a molding, which may themselves slope.
Keep the console or sofa table simple. A lamp, one stack of books, and a small object that picks up a color from the art is plenty. If your set leans warm, a small gold piece such as the Cuspin Gold Ginkgo frame, which is a tabletop frame and not wall art, can echo that warmth without competing.

Two to three inches between panels. Closer than 2 inches reads cramped and makes small errors obvious; wider than about 4 inches breaks the set into three separate pieces.
Not for an identical triptych; keep all three tops on one level line. If the center panel is larger, align centers or bottoms instead, and keep the gaps equal.
No, but it helps. A 48-inch level plus a pencil line works fine; a cross-line laser speeds things up and lets you see the whole line at once.
Sawtooth hangers are fine for lighter pieces on a single nail. Check the listing for weight and included hardware; for heavier relief panels, D-rings on two hooks are more stable.
