How we pick
By Moma Store NYC Editorial Team · Updated
The short answer
Every piece gets a 0–100 editor score from six inputs: demand signal (25), size-to-price value (20), material quality (20), palette versatility (15), cohesion as a set (10) and seller risk (10). The same formula ranks every list. Commission is not an input.
The formula
| Factor | Weight | How it’s measured |
|---|---|---|
| Demand signal | 25 | Amazon’s “bought in past month” badge, log-scaled (200+ = full marks). Without a badge, a best-seller rank contributes a small capped amount. Observed month is recorded; badges change. |
| Size-to-price value | 20 | Total art area in square inches divided by price tier, normalised so three 24×36 panels in the lowest tier score 1.0. Unknown sizes get a neutral 0.35. |
| Material quality | 20 | String art and sandstone/relief in solid-wood frames 1.0 · 3D textured wood 0.9 · photography and fine-art prints 0.6 · flat prints with unconfirmed medium 0.45. |
| Versatility | 15 | Average color saturation of the palette — neutral palettes fit more rooms and survive repaints. |
| Cohesion | 10 | Full marks for multi-piece sets designed to hang together; 0.4 for single pieces. |
| Seller risk | 10 | Full marks when the listing has buyer reviews and our data is verified; 0.2 when there are no reviews or key details (format, edition) are unconfirmed. |
What we check on every listing
- Dimensions and panel count — and whether a “24×36” figure is per panel or overall. Where it’s ambiguous we say so.
- Materials as stated — we only list a material if the listing states it. “3D wood” and “solid catalpa frame” are recorded; an unconfirmed canvas is marked “see listing”.
- Reviews present or absent — we never quote ratings, but a listing with zero reviews is flagged on its page and kept out of best-seller claims.
- Shared reviews — when two listings appear to share one review pool, we don’t treat either count as independent evidence.
What we don’t do
- Quote prices that might be stale. Prices appear only from Amazon’s API with an “as of” time; otherwise you see a tier.
- Accept payment for placement or adjust rankings by commission.
- Invent testimonials, ratings, sales figures or specs.
